Gianluigi Saporito was interviewed by RAI‘s Spotlight programme in a dramatic investigation into the logistics industry and its deep links with the Mafia. Consortia of spurious cooperatives or shell companies created specifically to fail, registered in the name of front men, total tax and contribution evaders. They work as subcontractors for large national and multinational logistics and service companies. Over the last four years, investigations by the Milan anti-mafia district directorate have uncovered a recurring mechanism to cut labour costs by resorting to illegality. In a good number of cases, these subjects are linked in various ways to the Sicilian Cosa Nostra and the Calabrian ‘ndrangheta. Single news events or a phenomenon that has already altered the rules of the market? And what is the situation outside Lombardy? Is it or is it not a national problem? The investigation attempts to answer these questions.
